The People’s Truth and Restoration Commission (PTRC)
The People’s Truth and Restoration Commission (PTRC) is a people-led initiative based partly on South Africa’s legacy of a contentious TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission), but also by contemporary citizen-led tribunals internationally.
Truth and justice are the pillars of meaningful transformation. By uncovering the full reality of human suffering and holding power to account, we honour victims, empower communities and build the foundation for genuine healing. Without truth, justice cannot breathe – and without justice, peace cannot last.
People-led power is the force that transforms despair into action and silence into collective strength. When communities unite across borders and struggles, solidarity becomes a lifeline – a shared commitment to dignity, liberation and justice. In standing together, we create the power that institutions cannot ignore.
Human dignity is the inherent right of every person and accountability is the promise that this right will be defended. By confronting abuses with truth and ensuring responsibility from those in power, we protect the worth of every life. Accountability is how dignity is restored, honoured and upheld.
The People’s TRC Stands Where Institutions Fail - Alongside the People
FOCUS AREAS
& IMPACT
The PTRC rises on the foundational belief and collective chorus that our liberation as humanity is interconnected and our solidarity is key for survival, prosperity and just peace.
Recognizing that some truths are too profound for language alone, the TRC integrates:
Public Hearings
Convening sessions across the Global Majority (South) and allied locations in the West, the People’s TRC, by working with ethical partners, will have a meaningful impact
Trauma Support
The People’s TRC aims to offer trauma therapy to survivors who testify, prioritizing their well-being throughout the process. We welcome support from counselors.
Art, Film & Poetry
Curated exhibitions, films and poetic testimonies will ensure emotional and spiritual dimensions witnessed and remembered. This is creative evidence.
